This story is of Muskan Kumari from the village of Panchwa in the district of Giridhi, Jharkhand. This town is like other towns where the economic, social, and cultural problems of the lower classes has continued to exist for generations. Muskan comes from a small family. Her father, Pappu Sav, works as a labourer and runs the household. Just like other girls in this village, Muskan also grew up facing problems from a young age. Due to the poor economic condition of the house and mostly due to her mother, Sushiladevi's poor health, Muskan grew up with surmounting worries. She wanted to do something different from others, something no one had done so far. She wanted to achieve her dreams. But seeing the poor economic condition of her family and the restrictions of her society, Muskan began to lose hope. She felt like a little boat in the sea which was broken despite constant efforts to surf the turbulent waves. Such that the waves were incredibly stronger than Muskan’s courage. But God had something else in mind. Muskan discovered a ray of hope, which was the 'Tech Center' operated by Abhivyakti Foundation and FAT.

 

Joining the Tech Center was nothing less than a rebirth for Muskan. It was difficult for some days in the beginning because she was already so broken that it was hard to emerge out of her shell. But in a few days she grew accustomed to the Tech Center. The dark clouds began to fade away and Muskan was finally moving towards her dream. She felt like god built the tech center just for her. Muskan also began to develop new skills. She used to be shy and keep her thoughts to herself, but now she would easily take part in discussions with everyone. All this could happen by the efforts of the trainers and from being inspired by the girls that attended the tech center.

 

Muskan has become so self-reliant that she goes anywhere without fear. She not only takes part in programs as a participant but also gets involved as a trainer. After completing a computer course at the tech center, she began taking a more active part in programs and learned to be self-sufficient. She has now started to raise her voice against the evils of the society and especially the restrictions imposed on girls, and has become a source of inspiration for others. Whenever she learns new things in the tech center, she assimilates it herself and tells her mother, the girls and women around her about it. Muskan has now passed high school and the girl who was frightened to come out of her house, now goes out of her small town to study in an adjacent city, 8 kms away.

 

Muskan now dreams of becoming an IPS officer, and strongly believes that girls are not born into this world to cook rotis, but actually have a lot of options to sustain themselves. She still comes regularly to the tech center and is fostering herself by helping other girls out. She is now teaching other girls at Tech Center to be self-sufficient and empowering them. Whenever Muskan visits a village, people call her 'Girl of Tech Center'. This change in Muskan’s life has been due to her self-determination and hard work.

 

Who can bind anybody, but a madman,

यह कहानी है गिरिडीह जिले के पचम्बा गांव की मुस्कान कुमारी की| यह क़स्बा भी अन्य कस्बों की तरह ही है जहाँ के निम्न वर्ग के लोगों की आर्थिक, सामाजिक, सांस्क्रतिक समस्याएँ हमेशा बनी रहती हैं| मुस्कान एक बहुत ही छोटे परिवार में रहती है। उसके पिता पप्पू साव मजदूरी कर अपना घर चलाते हैं| इस गांव की अन्य लडकियों की तरह ही मुस्कान भी छोटी सी उम्र से ही कई समस्याओं का सामना करती रही | घर की ख़राब आर्थिक स्तिथि और माँ सुशीलादेवी के ज्यादातर अस्वस्थ रहने के कारण मुस्कान ज्यादा ही परेशान रहने लगी | वह कुछ करना चाहती थी, औरों से अलग, जो अब तक किसी ने नहीं किया था| वह अपने सपने साकार करना चाहती थी | परन्तु घर की ख़राब आर्थिक स्थिति और समाज के बंदिशों को देखते–देखते मुस्कान अपना विश्वास खोती जा रही थी | वह किसी बड़े से समंदर में डूबती एक छोटी सी नाव सा महसूस कर रही थी जो उन लहरों से टकराने की लगातार कोशिशों  के बावजूद टूट चुकी थी। मानो कि वो लहरे मुस्कान के हौसलों से कहीं ज्यादा मजबूत हो चुकी थीं| पर ख़ुदा को कुछ और ही मंजूर था | मुस्कान को एक आशा की किरण नजर आने लगी, जो थी अभिव्यक्ति फाउंडेशन और फैट द्वारा संचालित ‘टेक सेंटर’|

 

टेक सेंटर से जुड़ना मुस्कान के लिए एक नये जन्म से कम न था | शुरुआत के कुछ दिन मुस्कान के लिए मुश्किल भरे रहे, वो इतनी टूट चुकी थी कि उनसे उभर पाना उसके लिए इतना आसान नहीं था | पर कुछ दिन बीत जाने के बाद मुस्कान टेक सेंटर की सभी चीजों को जानने लगी थी | अब काले बादल मुस्कान की जिंदगी से दूर जाने लगे थे और वह अब अपने सपनों की ओर बढ़ रही थी | उसे लगने लगा, टेक सेंटर मानो उसके लिए ही ख़ुदा ने बनाया हो जिसकी सबसे ज्यादा जरूरत उसे ही थी | मुस्कान में अब थोड़ा बदलाव आने लगा था, जो मुस्कान पहले अपनी बात दूसरों तक रखने में भी कतराती थी, वही अब अपनी बातों को आसानी से सब के बीच रख पाती हैं | ये सब टेक सेंटर के प्रशिक्षकों के प्रयास और टेक सेंटर आने वाली अन्य लडकियों से प्रेरित होकर उनसे सीखने के कारण हुआ | 

 

मुस्कान आज इतनी आत्मनिर्भर हो चुकी है कि वो बिना डरे कहीं भी आती जाती हैं | वो कार्यक्रमों में सिर्फ भागीदार के तौर पे हिस्सा नही लेती, बल्कि एक ट्रेनर के रूप में कई कार्यक्रमों को स्वयं संचालित भी करती है| मुस्कान ने टेक सेंटर से कंप्यूटर कोर्स पूरा करने के साथ ही वहाँ के सभी कार्यक्रमों में बढ़-चढ़ के हिस्सा लिया और आत्मनिर्भर होना भी सीखा| वह अब समाज की सभी बुराइयों और खास तौर पर लड़कियों के लिए बनी बंदिशों के खिलाफ आवाज़ उठाने लगी है और अब दूसरों के लिए प्रेरणा स्रोत भी बन चुकी है | टेक सेंटर में वह जो कुछ भी नयी चीजें सीखती है उसे स्वयं में आत्मसात करती है और अपनी माँ, आस-पास की सभी लड़कियों और औरतों को भी बताती है| मुस्कान ने हाई स्कूल पास कर लिया है और जो लड़की पहले घर से बहार निकलने में भी घबराती थी वही अब अपने घर से 8 किलो मीटर दूर एक छोटे से कस्बे से निकल कर शहर में आगे की पढाई के लिए जाती हैं |

 

मुस्कान का सपना है आईपीएस ऑफिसर बनना और उसका मानना है कि बेटियां सिर्फ घर में रोटी पकाने के लिए ही दुनिया में नही आई हैं, उनके लिए और भी कई काम हैं | मुस्कान अभी भी टेक सेंटर नियमित आती है और दूसरी लड़कियों की मदद करके अपने आप को और भी निखार रही है | वह अब टेक सेंटर की अन्य लड़कियों को आत्मनिर्भर और सशक्त बनना सिखा रही है | मुस्कान जब भी किसी गांव का दौरा करती तो लोग उसे ‘टेक सेंटर की लड़की’ के नाम से पुकारते हैं | मुस्कान में यह परिवर्तन उसकी आत्मशक्ति और मेहनत के बदौलत हुआ है|

 

कौन किसी को बांध सका सैयाद तो एक दीवाना है,

तोड़के पिंजड़ा एक न एक दिन पंछी को उड़ जाना है|
